MySpace is one of the most popular social networking websites in the world, offering hundreds of millions of people an interactive outlet for communicating with their network of friends through personal profiles, blogs, groups, photos, music, videos and more.
Faced with mounting competition in the social networking arena, especially from its main competitor, Facebook, MySpace sought to attract more users, improve the user-experience for current users and generate more advertising revenue. They needed to make the site easier to navigate and customize, deliver a more consistent look and feel, surface more viral content, create a stronger branded experience on the home page and implement more attractive advertising features.
Sequence worked closely with our partner Adaptive Path to provide new interaction and visual design for the critical areas of the site, including the global navigation, home page, friend’s page and the customization features on the profile page.
The redesign of MySpace created much buzz in the industry when the new global navigation and home page launched in June of 2008. The reaction from users was enormously positive, and the site was named by CNET as one of the top 10 redesigns of 2008.
